German composer and keyboardist. Nothing is known about his origins or youth; there is differing information on his birth date, which ranges from 1720 to 1740. Gerber’s Historisch-biographisches Lexicon der Tonkünstler, however, gives Strasbourg as his place of birth (though the name occurs in no contemporary Alsatian records), and Schubart in his autobiography claimed Schobert as a kinsman, supposedly from Nuremberg. Schobert first appeared in Paris in 1760, where he began a career as a keyboard virtuoso, eventually publishing 20 sets of works. In 1761 a few of his pieces appeared in the pasticcio Le tonnelier, and in 1765 he unsuccessfully attempted to become a composer of opéra comique with the comedy Le garde-chasse et le braconnier. He found employment with Louis François I de Bourbon, Prince of Conti, however. Throughout his career he achieved some fame for his expressive performances and works, in addition to being a rival of Johann Gottfried Eckard. He died along with his family, a servant, and four friends as a consequence of eating poisonous mushrooms. His musical style was influenced by that of Mannheim, although he was noted for his expressive melodies. His works include 21 violin sonatas, six symphonies, seven trio sonatas, five harpsichord concertos, three keyboard quartets, and several sonatas and miscellaneous works for harpsichord. Schobert greatly influenced Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who admired his music warmly. The work which most impressed the seven-year-old composer seems to have been the D major Sonata of op.3; imitation of this sonata and others can be traced in Mozart’s subsequent Parisian and English sonatas. Movements from Schobert’s sonatas also appear recast in Mozart’s earliest piano concertos. His fascination for Schobert’s music was not merely fleeting: when Mozart was in Paris in 1778 he taught his pupils Schobert’s sonatas, and the A minor Sonata k310, composed in Paris, contains in its Andante an almost literal quotation from a movement of Schobert’s op.17 no.1 that Mozart had already arranged years before in a concerto.

Parlem de Pintura...

Cornelis Troost (Amsterdam, 8 d'octubre de 1696 - Amsterdam, 7 de març de 1750) va ser un pintor, gravador i editor holandès. Fill d'un orfebre, va ser actor de teatre des del 1717 al 1724, abans de formar-se com a pintor amb Arnold Boonen. El 1720 es va casar amb Susanna Maria van der Duyn a Zwolle amb qui va tenir vuit fills. Va tenir com a deixebles a dues de les seves filles, Sara i Elisabeth, i també a Jacobus Buys. Va ser considerat com un dels pintors holandesos més importants del segle XVIII tant per la qualitat de les seves obres com pel volum d'encàrrecs que va rebre. Anomenat, pel seu to satíric, 'l'Hogarth holandès' en referència a William Hogarth, la seva obra va ser molt versàtil tant per la temàtica tractada com per la tècnica emprada. Va morir a Amsterdam el març de 1750.



Parlem de Música...

Johann Schobert (Śląsk?, c.1735 - Paris, 28 d'agost de 1767) va ser un clavecinista i compositor silesià. Es creu va néixer a la regió històrica de Silèsia si bé algunes fonts antigues van documentar altres llocs de naixement com Strasbourg o Nuremberg. De la seva vida inicial i formativa no se'n coneixen detalls sent la primera referència de l'any 1760 quan va entrar al servei del príncep Louis-François de Conti a París. També en aquells primers anys a París es va encarregar d'imprimir i publicar les seves obres per sí mateix eludint, d'aquesta forma, els preus prohibitius dels editors. També a París es va casar amb una noia francesa amb qui va tenir dos fills. Com a compositor i intèrpret va assolir una fama molt notable a la capital francesa fruit del seu art creatiu i brillant. I si bé no va rivalitzar amb Eckard, considerat el millor clavecinista del seu temps a París, va aconseguir superar-lo en admiradors, especialment per l'encant innat de les seves composicions. Tal va ser el ressò musical de Schobert en aquest sentit, que un jove Mozart es va emmirallar sovint en el seu talent, específicament en les Sonates Op. 3. En general, i en la seva especialitat de teclat amb acompanyament (sovint ad libitum), va descobrir noves formes i mitjans d'expressió tant importants com les innovacions produïdes en altres centres europeus entre els anys 1750 i 1775. Els darrers anys va compondre i representar, sense èxit, l'obra La garde-chasse et le braconnier, la que seria la seva única òpera. Després d'aquest fracàs el seu nom va desaparèixer d'escena i només es coneixen detalls de la seva mort juntament amb la seva dona, un dels seus fills, amics i criats, esdevinguda l'agost de 1767 després d'ingerir bolets verinosos.
