Johann Christoph Schmidt (Ansbach, 1712 - Bath, 3 d'octubre de 1795) va ser un compositor alemany. Fill de Johann Christoph Schmidt (d.1763), es va formar amb el seu pare, el copista principal d'Händel, abans d'estudiar amb el mateix Händel, amb Pepusch i amb Thomas Roseingrave. La seva primera òpera fou Ulysses (1733) la qual va marcar l'inici de la seva carrera com a compositor destacant posteriorment amb òperes com The Fairies (1755) o The Tempest (1756) i també pels oratoris com Paradise Lost (1760). També va compondre música per a clavecí en 5 volums (1732-1763) i serveis funeraris (1772) per la princesa de Gales, antiga alumna seva. Sempre se'l recordarà per haver estat l'assistent d'Händel a partir del moment en què va quedar cec. Va morir a Bath l'octubre de 1795.
