German composer. He entered the monastery of Ottobeuren in 1760 and
studied music under Placidus Christadler and Benedikt Kraus. He played
K.J. Riepp's new organ at the consecration of the monastery's
Dreifaltigkeitskirche (1766), and from 1769 served the abbey as regens
chori, organist and music teacher. Regarded by Lipowsky as a first-rate
composer, he wrote much sacred music in the Italian style of his time
(in A-Wn, D-FS, Mbs, OB) and at least 17 school dramas, now lost, for
Ottobeuren (one was also performed in Freising in 1776). Among others,
he published a set of six keyboard sonatas op.1 (1773) and Cantus
ottoburani monasterii (1784).
