---

Austrian (?) composer and mandolinist active in Vienna. Almost nothing is known about his life. The first reference by him is documented in Vienna around 1800 as 'instrumentalist'. It is said he is reputed to have wielded great influence in the development of rococo mandolin playing, shortlived as it was. It is presumed that "Giovanni" is an Italianization of the name "Johann". As a composer, he wrote several chamber works and a mandolin concerto preserved at the Bibliothek der Musikfreunde of Vienna and beneath the attractiveness of the solo instrument lies a work that is remarkable for its thematic graciousness and style. All his works were published in Vienna.
