---
Polish violinist and composer. Almost nothing is known about his early
years. He was professionally active for 30 years, first in Poznań and
later in other places in Wielkopolska, such as Sarnowa (near Rawicz),
Święciechowa, Wschowa and Gostyń. As a composer, he wrote operas, among
them, 'Pasterz nad Wisłą' and 'Kmiotek', sacred music, symphonies and
other instrumental and secular works. His works, based on elementary
forms and in a Classical style, were enriched by elements of Polish folk
music, which are present even in his Latin masses. His brother Roch
Wański (?-1808) was a cellist, his son Jan Nepomucen Wański
(c.1800-1888) was a violinist and composer and his granddaughter Anna
Wański was a pianist and teacher. His nephew was the famous polish
composer Karol Kurpiński (1785-1857).
