Alexandre-François Desportes (Champigneulle, 24 de febrer de 1661 - París, 20 d'abril 1743) va ser un pintor francès, considerat el fundador del gènere animalístic francès. Va ser aprenent de Nicasius Bernaerts, alumne de Frans Snyders, resident en aquell temps a París. Amb el seu mestre es va impregnar de la tradició flamenca que va endolcir amb la força del barroc en les seves composicions. El 1699 va ser admès a la Reial Acadèmia de Pintura i Escultura i des del 1700 i fins a la seva mort, va pintar nombrosos quadres per a les residències reials franceses de Versalles, Marly-le-Roi, Meudon, Compiègne i Choisy ja fos per a Lluís XIV com per a Lluís XV. Pintor de caça i dels gossos favorits dels reis, va acompanyar sovint a la reialesa en les habituals caceres, realitzant esbossos en viu dels quals el rei n'escollia els dels seu gust. Desportes va tenir una vida benestant abans de morir a París l'abril del 1743.

James Nares (Stanwell, bap. 19 d'abril de 1715 - London, 10 de febrer de 1783) va ser un organista, professor i compositor anglès. Membre del cor de la Capella Reial de Londres, va estudiar composició amb Pepusch. Durant un breu període de temps, va ser assistent de l'organista John Pigott abans d'entrar com a organista de la Catedral de York durant l'agost de 1735. Allà hi va romandre més de 20 anys abandonant aquest càrrec el 1757. Aquell any va succeir a Bernard Gates com a Master of the Children de la Capella Reial. Com a compositor va escriure nombrosa música d'església, obra instrumental i pedagògica. Va morir a Londres el febrer de 1783.
